Volunteer Wildlife Care Assistant Role

Although we have a team of full and part-time Wildlife Care Assistants, the work we do here is ongoing and we are regularly in need of reliable volunteers. If you are interested in getting involved with the hands-on work within the Hospital, we run two volunteer slots each day, 8am-12.30pm and 12.30pm-5pm.

We do require Volunteer Wildlife Care Assistants to commit to regular time slots, preferably at least once a week as it is important that we know we have enough cover to be able to give the necessary time and care to our patients so please do not consider applying unless you are able to volunteer regularly.

Evening volunteer shifts (needed from April to August each year) are from 6pm until 10pm (at the latest).

Fancy a working holiday? Book a work experience placement of 1-3 weeks with us (see our ‘Work Placement’ page for more details).

The routine jobs include cleaning out and feeding patients inside the Hospital on a daily basis. Some casualties need cleaning out several times a day. In the spring and summer months many youngsters require hand feeding from early in the morning until last thing at night. Other jobs include washing up, keeping the Hospital clean and tidy, mopping floors, preparing feeds and much more. Outside enclosures need cleaning daily and all outside casualties need fresh food and water every day, sometimes more than once a day.

Volunteer Requirements;

Sometimes specialist skills are required in certain areas of the work we do, although much of it is basic cleaning, feeding and washing up. All we ask of a volunteer is that they are enthusiastic and share our love of wildlife. You will need sturdy old clothes and footwear as work can be inside or out, and can also be wet and muddy at times!

SORRY, WE DON’T HAVE ANY VOLUNTEER WILDLIFE CARE ASSISTANT SLOTS AVAILABLE AT THE MOMENT, CHECK BACK SOON.

Other Volunteer Roles:

Maintenance Volunteer Role

Not so obvious, but every bit as vital to the running of the Wildlife Hospital, is the maintenance work around the site (weeding, strimming, mowing etc.), as well as the upkeep and repair of outside enclosures (this ranges from building new enclosures to treating the wood of the existing ones). If this type of volunteering appeals to you, we would welcome as many hours and at whatever times suit you best.

Fundraising Volunteer Role

It’s really important for us to attend external events with a Vale Stall to spread the word about what we do and, unfortunately, very often have to turn these opportunities down as we don’t have anyone to attend the events. Not only do we want to get out and attend more events, we also need helpers to volunteer their time at our Annual events (Open Day and Christmas Fair). If you think you could spare some time to help at events, and have experience of events (desired, not essential), please complete our ‘Various Volunteer Application Form’ at the bottom of the page.

Volunteers are also needed for:

Picking up casualties that people are unable to get to us – this is vital to us for people that aren’t able to bring a casualty into us directly.

Helping in one of our two Charity Shops (Evesham and Tewkesbury) – our shops rely on volunteers to be able to run smoothly.

We also need additional helpers to attend our weekly Car Boot sales and help run our Vale stall (April – September each year).

Whatever level of commitment you are able to offer we’ll be happy to hear from you. Please complete the Volunteer Form and return it to us at our usual address. For more information please call Natalie Gould on 01386 882288 or email volunteers@valewildlife.org.uk

Note: Volunteers must be at least 16 years old.

Fancy a working holiday? Why not spend a week (or more) working hands-on at Vale. We offer placements to people looking to experience life in a busy wildlife hospital. See our ‘Work Placements’ page for more details.
