Identifying a wildlife casualty, particularly a very young one, can be difficult.
Baby birds rarely look anything like their adult counterparts, and a very young fox cub for example has dark chocolate-brown fur rather than the rusty-red colouring of an adult fox.
Here are a few of the animals which often arrive with us as unidentified or
misidentified casualties.
Starling babies - note the huge mouth of the
younger one in the left photo.
Fox cubs look more like puppies at
a very young age.
Blackbirds are often mistaken for thrushes when young.
Believe it or not this is a baby pigeon!
Grass snake
Leverets are born eyes open & fully furred.
Compared to rabbits, their fur has a different
texture & a wavy appearance.
