Vale Wildlife Hospital and Rehabilitation Centre and The British Hedgehog
Preservation Society have joined forces to offer a one-day course,
'Basic Hedgehog First Aid, Care and Rehabilitation.'
This course, held at our hospital in Beckford, is designed for hedgehog carers and, although
aimed at beginners, it is proving very popular for both novices and experienced carers alike.
It also provides a get together for like-minded people where we can discuss all sorts
of problems, treatments, drugs and dosages which can and does benefit everyone.
The one day course includes the basics of assessing, examining and the initial treatment
of hedgehogs, the legislation involved, zoonotic risks, fluid therapy, when to be
worried about green 'poo', orphan rearing, feeding and practical sessions
including microscopy, rehydration and hedgehog anatomy.
An itinerary can be downloaded here.
The cost of the course is just £50 (£20 if you are a registered BHPS carer), which includes
the course booklet, a certificate, and tea and coffee (lunch not included).
The next date with available places is Sunday 13 May 2012.
The course must be booked through the BHPS and if you are interested in booking or you
want more information, please ring them on 01584 890801, or email them at info@britishhedgehogs.org.uk
We have a new hedgehog medication chart available, put together by Caroline Gould, the Founder and Manager of Vale Wildlife Hospital, and vet Tim Partridge, after many years
of research & testing.
Our success rate has improved immensely
since using the dosages
in this chart.
